RJ is done with Taipei

Sunday, July 19th, 2009

This will be my final entry from Taipei and it will be a pointless one! I have 30 minutes before they cut off my internet so I am just typing some randomness up here.

I have a 12 hour flight tomorrow that’s gonna be fun but at least when it is over I will be in the US again. I’ll be back to my comforts such as dual screens, my new 24” LCD that I ordered a month ago, and my Palm Pre (if I can get one). If I can’t get a Pre then I will have to settle for an iPhone…ugh.

But looking back on my trip I think I am going to miss this place and I probably will want to come back again, although not for 3 months. But I will be back to Asia hopefully next year if I can take advantage of Fordham’s study abroad program. But yeah that’s a ways away.

If you ever come here to Taipei please remember to hit the important spots. here is a list!

  • Guang Hua Electronics Market
  • Wu Fen Pu Clothing Market
  • Taipei 101 (pay the 360 NTD and go to the top you cheap ass)
  • The Taipei City Mall (underground shopping mall)
  • Kaoshiung (cool southern Taiwan city)
  • Taipei City Zoo
  • Kenting (I’m pissed I didn’t go)

So yeah those are just a few places you should stop by. but anyways that’s it!

For the last time in Taiwan, this is the Ranting Jamaican signing off!

Peace out Ya’ll! Zip it up and Zip it OUT!!

RJ’s Energy Drink Roundup

Thursday, July 16th, 2009

So a few weeks ago I finally found Taipei’s equivalents to red bull. And boy were they effective. I tried four different energy drinks. Since I don’t know how to read most of the characters in their names I will just show you the pictures. It is unfortunate that I discovered them so late, but oh well. Here they are in order of effectiveness!

the first one is intense! I mean INTENSE. when you drink this you will be WIDE AWAKE for hours. It also caused my chest to feel funny and my heart to feel like it was beating irregularly. I would think this thing is about (red bull)*5 when it comes to strength. So I think in this case you may want to stay away from the purple stuff except for extreme circumstances.

The second one is about double the strength of Red Bull. It is pretty intense and does not make my chest feel like it is going to explode.

the second to last one is about the same as Red Bull.

And the last one is slightly weaker than red bull.

As for taste all of these taste  much worse than Red Bull. Imagine Red Bull with a syrupy consistence and no carbonation. In the case of the purple stuff they added a grape flavor so it sort of tastes like Dimetapp. But it is REALLY effective so who cares.

All these energy drinks are great substitutes for Red Bull when you are in Taiwan but none of them taste as good! If you really want Red Bull you will have to hop on a plane to Japan. I am not sure if they have it in China. so Japan is your safest bet. And as soon as you land in Japan you get a 90 day visitors visa so you can even stay a while.

Anyways, my time is limited since I will be leaving on Monday. Peace out ya’ll!

RJ’s Plane Flight Hell

Thursday, July 16th, 2009

Due to an unfortunate set of circumstances I have been screwed over where plane flights are concerned. Anyways to make a long story short, I will be coming back to the US of A on July 20th. It will be a wondrous day for the United States, the triumphant return of the Ranting Jamaican! Yes I am that wonderful…

That being said I will now go into the long and uninteresting story. My girlfriend and I were planning to leave on August 1st but we were waiting until we knew more about the times when our MBA programs would be starting to change the tickets to that date. So today we called to change our tickets and they said ALL of the flights from here to Los Angeles were booked from July 27th to September 7th and the waiting lists were closed. Imagine my surprise!

Supposedly July and August are when EVERYBODY wants to head back to the US. I thought it would have been August and September but I guess I was wrong. So be warned! never wait to reschedule your tickets if you want to leave from Taiwan in July or August because that’s when everybody wants to leave.

But anyways currently our tickets were set for September 2nd. I need to be in New York City by August 26th obviously this was not going to work. So in order to get out of this place we have to pay $550 EACH to upgrade our tickets, they are still economy, and we are leaving on Monday July 20th, four days from now.

ugh.. what a mess. But on the bright side I get to play with my Samsung T240HD monitor 11 days earlier than I thought! I can’t wait!

Peace out Ya’ll
