Inception… big wow

Saturday, July 17th, 2010

I went into this movie expecting quite a lot from Inception. It delivered and then some.

The special effects were amazing and the story was a TOTALLY new concept, at least I’ve never heard or thought of it. Interestingly the movie was sort of like Terminator Salvation in that it seemed as though they wanted us to pay attention to Leonardo DiCaprio and Ken Watanabe, but really Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Tom Hardy really stole the show. throughout the movie I kept thinking about how bad ass Eames and Arthur were. This is not to say that Ken Watanabe and Leonardo DiCaprio were not thoroughly amazing in their roles, they were quite amazing.

This movie will definitely do well, I really loved it and so did my girlfriend. I am more of a scifi hardcore addict and my girlfriend is a romantic comedy girl. This movie seems to somehow tailor to a wide array of audiences. It is not like the normal hardcore scifi movies, that I love, but tend to alienate non hardcore scifi moviegoers like Star Trek 7-10. But I must mention that throughout the movie I kept trying to figure out why Tom Hardy looked and sounded so familiar. As it turns out he played Shinzon in Star Trek X (Nemesis). But seriously go see the movie, twice.

And in case you are wondering, I have decided to only mention movies that I actually like on my blog. This is why I am not mentioning such crap as Avatar: The Last Airbender or average fare like the Sorcerer’s Apprentice.

Despicable Me….Wow!

I don’t have time to really write a review of this movie, but it really stands out as my new favorite animated movie. It is probably the best and most surprising movie that I have watched all year. But then again I went into it with pretty low expectations. All I wanted to do was go and laugh at something for 90 minutes.

But I will say two things:

  1. Gru is AWESOME!
  2. This movie, in my opinion, is a must see.

But I did have one tiny tiny complaint about the movie, there was one part of the movie where I wished they made it longer, in order to further express Gru’s level of awesome.

Ok, back to school work.

RJ on Twilight Saga:New Moon

Friday, November 27th, 2009

So yesterday I watched Twilight: New Moon. From the previews I thought this movie was going to be bad ass and full of crazy werewolf action. But no! The one scene that they could have shown that would have been amazing, death of Laurent, was not even included. Eh.

This movie like the first one was a large amount of awkward teeny romance drawn out over 2 hours. I must admit that what little werewolf action there was was friggin amazing, not craptastic like Blood & Chocolate (Blood & Chocolate was crap by the way). The human to werewolf transition was quite frankly amazing.

If there were no werewolves in this movie I probably would have stuck a pen in my neck to stop the pain.  But since the werewolves were VERY well done I give it 6 out of 10 stars, with 4 of the stars attributed to the werewolves, 2 stars attributed to the tense vulturi scene, and 1 star to the movie in general.

All in all I would say that it is worth seeing if you can suffer through the intense teeny romance.

Oh and the cornbread turkey filling that I had with the Jerk Turkey was amazing!

Peace.
