So I am headed to New York today (august 24th 2009) and as I am checking in do you know what I found out? Of course you don’t you’re not the Shadow (watch the Alec Baldwin Shadow film if you don’t get the reference). Anyways I found out that I had to pay 40 dollars to check my bags!

From this day forth the ranting Jamaican will boycott Alaskan Airlines. Maybe I will fly with them again if they stop charging for checking bags. I could understand if my bags were overweight but they weren’t WTF dudes. No more Alaskan and the same goes for all other airlines that charge extra for baggage.

I think the real reason that I am pissed is that adding a baggage checking fee really makes it a lot harder to choose which flight is the cheapest. If the website had a little pop-up that said “this airline charges a fee to check baggage” when I was comparing prices it would be extremely helpful. But as things are now you have to either just know or spend extra time looking these things up.

I wonder if when they added these baggage checking fees 2 years ago, or whatever, they lowered the prices. I hope they did. Because then it would sort of make sense because if you don’t check bags then you get less service therefore you should pay less. In that sense perhaps every airline should charge to check baggage as long as they take the price of checking baggage out of the cost of the plane ticket. Then there would be no confusion and everyone would just know that there is going to be a baggage checking fee regardless. But oh well that will NEVER happen.
